A father has left his young family behind after perishing in a tragic Christmas Eve jet ski accident.
Aaron Thomson‘s body was found by police divers in Burraneer Bay, south of Sydney on Christmas Day. The man had gone missing around 7.30pm the night before.
Mr Thomson was one of three men travelling on one jet ski, which was reportedly travelling at high speed.
According to police, the 35-year-old was not wearing a life jacket.
Mr Thomson’s widow Renee Monroe shared her grief in an Instagram post paying tribute to her husband.
“My love, I don’t know where to start, I’m at a complete loss for words. What I thought was going to be our first Christmas celebrating as a family, will now never be,” she wrote.
“The pain I feel is unimaginable. My heart has been ripped into a million pieces and it’ll never be whole again.
“When you left this lifetime, a piece of me went with you. I’ve never needed you more than ever. I’m lost without you. When I look at Havana I can‘t stop thinking of you. How she lost her daddy, her protector and love of her life.”
“It now makes sense why Havana wanted you and only you. Why she cried for you to hold her, to cuddle and kiss her. Life is so unfair, she didn’t deserve this. We didn’t deserve this,’ she continued.
On Christmas morning, she said she “sat by the water so you weren’t alone. I prayed for you to come home. Now that we have you, we can lay you to rest”.
Chief Inspector Joseph McNulty of Marine Area Command said witnesses in the area informed police the jet ski was travelling at high speed.

“[It was] three men out for some good fun … and the manner of their driving is something we will be looking at with keen interest,” he told reporters.
“Something has happened to that jet ski to have a single-vessel collision … it was a violent turn from the vessel which catapulted all three men into the water [and] the impact was hard, which may have caused this man to lose consciousness and sink to the bottom.
“I‘ve been doing this job for 30 years and every person I’ve pulled out of the water with a life jacket has been alive. Wear a life jacket. They save your life.”
